Labour Market Data
The Department of Education and Training commissioned The
National Institute of Economic and Industry Research (NIEIR)
to produce summaries of the state's social and economic trends
as part of the development process for The NSW Strategic VET
Plan.
The Department of Education and Training produced Social
and Economic Trends in NSW, 1989-1999 as a background paper
for consultations on the strategic VET plan using NIEIR projections.
The paper reviewed significant changes and trends in demography,
labour market participation and participation in education
and training during a ten-year period.
The Department also produced an overview of projections of
economic growth and employment trends in New South Wales for
the five-year period 2001-2005. The projections summary -
Economic and Employment Outlook in NSW, 2001-2005 - was prepared
using figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and
the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. The
summary was used by the Department of Education and Training
to develop plans to meet the state's demand for training and
retraining.
