Promotional Program for Mature Age Workers
Mature-age workers are a critical part of the Australia’s workforce and skill base. The ageing of the workforce and labour force with participation rates dropping markedly for those over the age of 45, particularly for males has focussed attention on the re-skilling of mature aged workers to address current and future skill needs. Employers can no longer rely on young people to replenish the skills of their workforce.
The Board has initiated a new project to develop and implement a specific promotional program targeting mature age people and employers to increase their participation and engagement in VET. A communication strategy targeting mature age people will be developed outlining the positive aspects of VET and in particular, apprenticeships and traineeships and the need to develop skill sets to meet future industry requirements. This will include awareness of the flexibility that exists in NSW (for example, competency based completion) and the availability of recognition to allow mature age people to receive credit for existing skills. The project will also develop promotional materials (both print and web based) and case studies including interviews of mature age finalists from the NSW Training Awards.
