Innovation Model for fostering high skills among small and medium Manufacturing/Engineering enterprises
This project provided a regional approach to the development of innovative work practices to improve productivity in small and medium size manufacturing and engineering enterprises in South Western Sydney. Under this project South Western Sydney Institute (SWSI) collaborated with Berufsforderungzentrum (BfZ) Essen of Germany to develop generic skills for people who work with technology to improve business capability and productivity
BfZ is a government funded German education and training provider which has worked with enterprise undergoing change to help them to revitalise their businesses by making training decisions as a part of business process. The Board was keen to see how the innovative approaches of BfZ can be adapted to NSW situation, so that the project's results can potentially be replicated in other geographic and industry areas.
The focus of the project was on existing and new workers - moving existing workers to higher level positions to enable more apprentices to be employed. In this way the new career and qualification pathway make these apprenticeships more attractive to young people. The project was completed in 2005 and final report available.
