Greater Recognition by Industry and Universities of Achievement in VET in Schools Programs

One of the Board’s goals is to encourage greater university recognition of vocational education and training (VET) courses. The Board believes that improved recognition of VET in schools courses is essential if all students are to have equitable opportunities to progress to higher education. In line with this goal, a national project to increase university recognition of VET was established in March 2000.

The project is jointly funded by the Board and the Australian National Training Authority and its goal is to improve university recognition of VET in schools courses for those seeking entry to higher education. Vocational programs currently receive only limited recognition in the calculation of tertiary entrance scores.

Chaired by New South Wales, the project’s national working group has been negotiating with a wide range of agencies across Australia to develop a consistent and national approach to university recognition of VET in schools courses.
