VET in Schools
The Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools Program
aims to prepare NSW schools students for further education,
training and employment.
The Department’s program consists of a large range
of activities and services, including career education and
advisory services for students and administrative support
for NSW school districts, all 40 of which are Registered Training
Organisations.
Higher School Certificate students can choose from eight
industry framework VET courses that can be included in the
calculation of the Universities Admissions Index (UAI). The
framework courses currently available to HSC students include
Tourism and Hospitality, Primary Industries, Retail, Business
Services, Metal and Engineering, Information Technology, Construction
and Entertainment.
The VET in Schools Program offers mandatory work placement
for HSC students studying industry curriculum framework courses.
The VET in Schools Program also supports a Commonwealth Government
initiative offering students school-based part-time traineeships.
The initiative offers school students the opportunity to combine
HSC study towards a recognised VET qualification with paid
part-time work.
