Programs and Services

The Department of Education and Training administers innovative training programs which help to meet the state's VET skills and training needs. A range of programs are addressing the skill needs of emerging and traditional industries, as well as specific skill needs in high-growth areas of the economy. The Department administers a comprehensive apprenticeship and traineeship system, and provides accreditation and recognition services to group training providers, private training providers and industry.

The Department’s VET in Schools Program provides vocational education and opportunities for accredited training for more than 60,000 school students each year, with a number of vocational subjects offered as part of the NSW Higher School Certificate.

The Department also manages training programs for groups that are under-represented in vocational education and training and those who may be at a disadvantage in the labour market, including Indigenous people, people with a disability, and people from language backgrounds other than English.
